Day 102 – Welcome to Connecticut (2026)

The Trek Continues: Exploring Connecticut's Trails

I'm embarking on a new adventure as I cross state lines and delve into the heart of Connecticut. After a well-deserved rest, my journey resumes with a fresh perspective and a renewed sense of excitement.

Embracing the Journey

Starting the day with a leisurely pace, I took my time to appreciate the morning. As an experienced hiker, I understand the importance of listening to my body, especially after consecutive 25-mile days. This slower start allowed me to recharge and prepare for the upcoming challenges.

Stepping into Connecticut, my tenth state on this trail, I felt a sense of accomplishment. The trail welcomed me with a gentle climb, a fitting introduction to this new terrain. As I hiked, I couldn't help but notice the comfort of my new shoes, a stark contrast to the worn-out pair I had bid farewell to. However, even the most comfortable footwear requires an adjustment period, and I found myself taking it easy to accommodate the break-in process.

Trailside Encounters and Diversions

The trail offered a delightful surprise as I stumbled upon a fellow hiker, Shooter, soaking his feet in a river. This simple act of self-care reminded me of the importance of taking breaks and connecting with nature. We shared a moment of camaraderie, soaking our tired feet and enjoying the refreshing river water.

A short detour led us to a covered bridge, a hidden gem off the beaten path. These unexpected discoveries are what make hiking so captivating. It's not just about reaching the destination but embracing the journey and all its surprises.

Conquering Challenges and Rewards

As we approached Kent, CT, a steep climb tested our resilience. Despite feeling sluggish, we pushed forward, determined to reach the summit. A minor stumble along the way served as a reminder that even the most experienced hikers encounter obstacles. But it's how we recover and continue that defines our journey.

The town of Kent offered a well-deserved respite. We indulged in cold drinks and explored local establishments, including an outfitter and a cozy restaurant, Cozzy's. The simple pleasures of recharging our electronics and savoring a delicious pizza reminded me of the importance of finding comfort in the little things during such an adventure.

Evening Reflections

As the sun began to set, we made our way to the Stewart Hollow Brook Shelter, arriving just in time. Hiking along the Housatonic River, I couldn't help but feel a sense of peace. This journey is not just about physical endurance but also about embracing the beauty of nature and the connections we make along the way.

In my opinion, hiking is as much about the inner journey as it is about reaching new destinations. Each day brings new challenges and rewards, shaping our perspective and pushing us to appreciate the simple pleasures of life. As I continue my trek, I'm eager to uncover more hidden gems and share my experiences with fellow adventurers.
